Abstract

A novel realisation is reported of single-to-dual-channel simultaneous wavelength conversion for carrier-suppressed return-to-zero (CSRZ) and format conversion from CSRZ to return-to-zero (RZ) by exploiting cascaded second-harmonic generation and difference-frequency generation (cSHG/DFG) in a periodically poled lithium niobate (PPLN) waveguide. Two-channel converted idlers are obtained by two cSHG/DFG processes as the continuous wave (CW) pump and CSRZ signal are set close to the quasi-phase matching (QPM) wavelength of PPLN. All-optical 40 Gbit/s single-to-dual-channel simultaneous CSRZ wavelength conversion and CSRZ-to-RZ format conversion are successfully demonstrated in the experiment.
