Abstract

Survival of a transplantable AKR leukemia used as an allograft model was studied in x-irradiated nonsusceptible C57BL/6J hosts. Preirradiated mice died of leukemia, but postirradiated mice did not, as confirmed by transfer of homogenized spleens from irradiated allogenic hosts to AKR mice syngeneic with the leukemic cells. More leukemic cells developed in preirradiated host spleens, suggesting that a concentration-dependent control mechanism regulating allograft proliferation in normal mice may be damaged by preirradiation.
