Abstract

Current treatment options for chronic ruptures of both the peroneus longus and brevis tendon with a large tendon defect are limited. Previous recommendations have included tendon transfer, tenodesis, or a 2-stage procedure. We present a novel technique for management of tendon defects greater then 4 cm with the use of peroneal allograft reconstruction. This has proven to be an effective single-stage treatment option when there is a well functioning proximal muscle, even in the face of large tendon gaps. This technique results in an anatomic reconstruction without violation of another tendon for transfer or tenodesis and is a one-stage procedure.
