Abstract

The appearance and rearrangement of dissipative structures — imperfect patterns, have been examined by the example of convection between rigid horizontal plates poorly conducting heat (the Proctor-Sivashinsky model). It is shown that a sequence of structural transitions from uniform state to convective rolls, than to square cells and finally to cells with embedded allocated defects takes place as a result of a cascade of instabilities.
