Abstract

Allium ampeloprasum as an ethnomedicinal plant has many therapeutic effects in the traditional medicine. In the recent years, the silver nanoparticles green-mediated by ethno medicinal plants have been used for the treatment of several kinds of cancers. Now, we investigated the silver nanoparticles green-synthesized according to green chemistry rules using the aqueous extract of Allium ampeloprasum leaf for the treatment of lung carcinoma. The properties of silver nanoparticles against common human lung cancer cell lines i.e. HT144, SKMEL2, WM266-4, and IPC-298 were evaluated. The green-synthesized silver nanoparticles were characterized using different techniques such as FE-SEM, UV-Vis, and TEM. The FE-SEM and TEM results confirm spherical morphology for the nanoparticles with size of 11.9–46.7 nm. The IC50 of the silver nanoparticles was 125, 164, 180 and 149 µg/ml against HT144, SKMEL2, WM266-4, and IPC-298, respectively. After doing the clinical trial studies, the recent nanoparticles may be used as an anti-lung supplement in humans.
