Abstract

Two years have passed since our team took over Allergy, stirring it into a new direction as a World journal with a dedicated team of Editors from all continents. We opened the Davos Office of Allergy with a Managing Editor, Graphics Editor, and Social Media Editor. Together with our Copenhagen, Oxford, and Manila offices, Allergy is now an international enterprise with a strong team of highly focused and motivated Editors (Table 1). We have instituted many changes in our quest to improve Allergy and to realize our vision of making our journal the main platform for all aspects of basic, translational, and clinical research, education, and dissemination of knowledge in the area of Allergy and Immunology. There have been many significant developments in the journal, and we are already seeing some of the positive outcomes. The number of submissions, the time from submission to first decision, and the number of downloads of our articles have all substantially improved with a trend of increased number of readers and citations. These achievements can be attributed to the many changes in the journal, such as new article categories, our own highly accessed social media and website, printing entirely in color, our own graphics style, and journal cover, along with many other innovative contents. 4500 words, 200 Ref., 10 Fig./Tables News and views: Legends of allergy and immunology2 1000 words, 5 Ref., 2 Fig./Tables News and views: Medical algorithms in allergy and immunology3 1000 words, 9 Ref., 2 decision trees News and views: Recent patents in allergy and immunology4 1000 words, 9 Ref., 2 Fig./Tables News and views: Groundbreaking discoveries in immunology5 1000 words, 9 Ref., 2 Fig./Tables 1000 words, 9 Ref., 2 Fig./Tables As part of Allergy's redesign, the Author Guidelines are being revised. This includes educational material on “Writing an effective abstract” to improve search engine visibility of your article, a “Cover letter template” that is now mandatory when submitting your manuscript, a “Point-by-point reply template” to be completed when addressing the reviewers’ comments, PowerPoint presentations on “How to review” for high impact journals, and “How to present data efficiently” for both manuscripts and lectures. You can download all these files from Allergy Author Guidelines website. One of the major improvements to the journal is that all of our Original Articles include a descriptive Graphical Abstract (GA), which consists of an illustration and three key highlighting sentences that summarize the major findings of the article. We have accepted over 200 GAs to date, and we are pleased to see them being used by the authors during their talks. We are now publishing the entire journal in color without any additional color charges. Our Graphics Editor is working daily with many of the submitted GAs and Figures and personally improving them or providing suggestions to authors. In addition, we have developed Allergy's own graphics style (Figure 1). These are figure templates of the immune system, tissue cells, arrows, and so on, which are exclusively designed for our journal and are free to download through Author Guidelines on the Wiley website. Adding to our new look is our new journal cover that features a different creative illustration based on the allergy/immunology theme of that issue. We live in an era where social media drives most of the communication, and it is one of the most effective ways of exposing your article to the world. Since our launch of Facebook in August 2018, we have over 32 000 followers and over 1 400 000 post views. Around the same time, we also started to promote your articles and other events through Twitter, and we currently have more than 700 000 impressions. Articles are posted on these platforms daily along with a brief summary of the research to capture the reader's attention. Your article can be easily accessed from the Facebook and Twitter posts through a direct link to download the article. Chinese WeChat and Instagram are other efficient social media venues to outreach to our readers. Allergy is the leading journal of the EAACI, and we are proud of the synergistic relationship between the journal, our publisher Wiley, and our Academy. We are constantly striving to improve the journal, and your feedback is essential to us. We look forward to another productive year. None declared.
