Abstract
Latex allergy is currently a growing and significant public health problem. Its incidence is constantly increasing due to widespread use of latex gloves. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of work-related latex allergy among healthcare staff at Ibn-Sina Hospital in Rabat and to identify the profile of this allergy. In the questionnaire, 97 subjects (51% of respondents) reported clinical signs while wearing latex gloves. The clinical signs were mainly as follows: cutaneous pruritus manifestations (38.5% of cases), contact urticaria (15%), eczema (14%), rhinitis (12%), erythema (10%), conjunctivitis (6%), asthma (2%), vesicular dermatitis (2%) and anaphylactic shock (0.5%). The onset of these signs was immediate in 59.7% of cases. Personal atopy was reported by 23 subjects (23.7%). Due to underreporting of symptoms related to latex exposure, subjects should be urged to consult in the event of any symptoms occurring on exposure.
