Abstract
In this study, some plant species that had allelopathic effects and inhibited the germination of some weed species were investigated in Çukurova. The diluted extracts obtained from Eucalyptus camaldulensis Dehn. (red river gum), Juglans regia L. (walnut tree), Melia azedarach L. (chinaberry tree), Nerium oleander L. (common oleander), and Raphanus sativus L. (garden radish), were applied the seeds of winter weeds such as Alopecurus myosuroides Huds. (blackgrass), Lactuca sativa L. (garden lettuce), Lolium multiflorum Lam. (italian rye-grass) and Raphanus raphanistrum L. (wild radish) and summer Amaranthus retroflexus L. (red root), Digitaria sanguinalis (L.) Scop. (crab-grass), Portulaca oleracea L. (common purslane), Prosopis stephaniana Kunth. (mesquite), and Xanthium strumarium L. (cocklebur), Percentage of germination rate was evaluated by counting germinated weeds on the 3 th, 5th, 7 th, 14 th, 21 st and 28 th days of experiment. Diluted extracts of N. oleander and M. azedarach gave the best results among the species used in the experiment inhibited the seed germination of the weeds used in the experiment. Percentage of germination rates of particularly L. sativa and L. multiflorum were unexpectedly zero.
