Abstract
We have proposed and experimentally demonstrated a novel method to realize nonlinear optical mixing based on cross-absorption modulation in an electroabsorption modulator. Our experimental results show that the local oscillator power and optical filtering play an important role on the receiver sensitivity of the up-conversion signal; furthermore, the wavelength span of larger than 20 nm for up-conversion signal can be obtained.
