Abstract

A novel all-optical clock recovery scheme in which an optical data stream is used to mode-lock a fibre laser at (or an integer multiple of) the line rate is experimentally demonstrated. A length of data transmission fibre is shared with the fibre laser and mode locking occurs through the process of crossphase modulation.
