Abstract

Abstract The problem of an all-coupling many polaron gas in a two-dimensional semiconductor quantum well is studied for the first time using a variational method and the static random phase approximation. It is predicted that at a critical carrier density a two-dimensional optical polaron will make a sharp transition from the self-trapped state to a delocalized state.
