Abstract

Reaction of the dichlorocomplex [Ni(Cl) 2(PMe 3) 2] with [Mg{CH(SiMe 3) 2}Cl] gave the dimer [Ni{CH(SiMe 3) 2}(μ-Cl)(PMe 3)] 2 (1), which, in the presence of Me 2 PCH 2CH 2PMe 2 (dmpe) and PMe 3, afforded the monomeric alkyls [Ni{CH (SiMe3)2}Cl(dmpe)] (2), and [Ni{CH(SiMe 3) 2}CI(PMe 3) 2] (3), respectively. The spectroscopic properties of 3 indicate a cis arrangement of the phosphine ligands which hasbeen unambiguously confirmed by a single-crystal X-ray study [P—Ni—P angle of 97.2(1)°]Some chloride ligand replacement reactions are reported as well as the outcome of theinsertion of CNBu t into the Ni—C bonds of 1. Spectroscopy and X-ray studies show theproduct of the latter reaction contains an η 2-alkaneimidoyl structure [Ni{η 2-C(NBu t)CH(SiMe 3) 2}CI(PMe 3)] (6).
