Abstract

Hydrogenation of 2-methylbuta-1,3-diene (isoprene) under helium flow in the absence of gaseous hydrogen is used to reveal and titrate reactive hydrogen species present in MoS 2 /γ-Al 2 O 3 and Cu-Zn-O catalysts previously treated under hydrogen. Among the solids studied, the larger hydrogen reservoir is found to be Cu-Zn-O. Besides, the hydrogen reservoir capacity of MoS 2 /γ-Al 2 O 3 depends on the treatment temperature under hydrogen which has been shown to correspond to different degrees of unsaturation of the solid. Moreover, the isoprene product distribution under helium is studied on the hydrogen reservoirs with regard to the concentration of extractable reactive hydrogen species, as well as to the structure of the active sites present.
