Abstract

The research aims to describe code switching and code mixing that are used by speakers in some programs of Indonesian television. The subject of this research is languages used in Indonesian television, while the object is code switching and code mixing as well as spoken by television hosts, juries, and contestants on the singing competition show at Indonesian television channels. The method used is scrutinized by using recording and noting techniques. The result shows that languages undergoing code switching and code mixing in speech of television in Indonesian televisions are English, Arabic, Javanese, and Makassarese language. The type of code switching found is foreign language to Indonesian language. Furthermore, the type of code mixing found is inner code-mixing and outer code-mixing by using Indonesian language, local languages, and foreign languages through the insertion of word, phrase, iteration, and expression.
