Abstract

This study aims to describe the code switching and code mixing used by speakers in the AL-KARIMAH Middle School environment in Surabaya. This research is a qualitative descriptive study. The subjects used in this study are the languages used by teachers and students when communicating in the school environment. The object of this study is the speech of the use of code switching and code mixing used in communication (morning briefings, student briefings and so on). The methods used in collecting data are observation techniques and recording techniques. The results showed that the code switching and code mixing that occurred were Javanese, Madurese and Indonesian. The type of code switching found was Indonesian to Javanese. The types of code mixing found were internal code mixing and outgoing code mixing using Indonesian, Javanese and Madurese in the form of words, sentences and phrases.
