Abstract

Abstract A long-chain alkyl ester of a polyamic acid which is a precursor of a polyimide was deposited on a glass plate as a Y-type LB film. Depending on the length of the alkyl chain of the LB film and on the layer structure of it, the alignment of liquid crystals changed from the homogeneous to the homeotropic. The SSFLCD fabricated by the homogeneous alignment showed a good bistability.
