Abstract

Like its subject, Michael Mann's Ali boasts many things. It features fine performances from Will Smith, Jon Voight, and Jamie Foxx; exciting reenactments of Ali's fights with Sonny Liston, Joe Frazier, and George Foreman that give the viewer the feeling of actually being in the ring; and a beautifully filmed opening sequence—which,as it turns out, is a harbinger of the movie's two crippling weaknesses....
