Abstract
Objective the aim of this study was to develop a scale to assess satisfaction with a private residential care facility among the elderly in the Autonomous Community of Galicia (Spain). Material and methods a pilot questionnaire containing 94 items was used with a sample of 172 residents in 13 private residential care facilities for the elderly in Galicia. Results an instrument with good internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha) and consisting of 15 items was obtained. The questionnaire included 3 factors or subscales: physical environment, the care received, and social interaction. A Likert-type, 5-point scale response (from «Completely Agree» to «Completely Disagree») was used for the 94 items. Conclusions the questionnaire designed can be used in private residential aged care facilities in Galicia to asses the quality of life of elderly residents in our Autonomous Community.
