Abstract

EnglishThe proposal to establish the chronology of the High Priest of Amun, Amenhetep, to the beginning of the wHm mswt era, and to establish the general and High Priest of Amun, Paiankh, as the principal official in charge of the Theban government after the disappearance of Amenhetep, supposes that Herihor ruled in Thebes during the last years of the wHm mswt era. Consequently, it was not until the death of Ramesses XI, when Smendes contemporaneously governed in Tanis, that Herihor used the royal titulary. This conclusion seems to be supported by the actual documentation.
