Abstract
Although there is a discussion on the teaching of grammar at school, the current trend is not the traditional grammar, but a model of grammar that leads the students to reflect about the real use of the language with its linguistic varieties, including the normative one. The purpose of this paper is to discuss how textual linguistics and functionalism can help in that sense. The contents of textual linguistics focused are mechanisms to build and categorize discourse objects and the textual function of nominalizations. Besides, these contents of functionalism are the mechanisms to introduce, maintain and resume discursive topics.

Summary
Ainda há muito para se discutir no que diz respeito ao ensino de gramática na escola. Atualmente, uma posição mais ponderada defende que a gramática seja, sim, ensinada na escola, mas não a gramática tradicional. A gramática que se propõe que seja ensinada deve levar o aluno a refletir sobre o uso efetivo da língua, considerando o convívio das variantes lingüísticas, incluindo a norma considerada padrão. Pretendese apontar alguns tópicos da Lingüística Textual e do Funcionalismo que podem contribuir nesse sentido. Da Lingüística Textual, os conteúdos focalizados serão os mecanismos de construção e de categorização de objetos de discurso, e a função textual das nominalizações. Serão focalizados os mecanismos de introdução, manutenção e retomada de tópicos discursivos.
