Abstract

Next Generation Wireless Networks are heterogeneous in nature comprising of various radio access technologies. There has been exponential growth in the number of mobile users in the recent years and the users demands have been ever-growing. Keeping multiple mobile applications running simultaneously, while the users are on the move, require high bandwidth and seamless connectivity. Connectivity to the best network among the available networks can be ensured by having an efficient Vertical Handover Decision Algorithm. The choice of the best radio access network depends upon various parameters like Received Signal Strength, Channel capacity, Cost, Quality of Service and Network coverage. Vertical Handover Decision Algorithm is an important constituent of the network architecture in heterogeneous wireless networks. In this research paper, the authors have implemented Vertical Handover Decision Algorithm using Simple Additive Weighting (SAW) and Multiplicative Exponential Weighting (MEW) techniques.
