Abstract
The principal aspects, algorithm, and search method are presented for the surface of least shear resistance on the basis of minimization of the strength functional. The coefficients allowing estimation of possible rock failure in different sections of the surface in question are proposed. As an example, the results of search of a probable failure surface in a pit edge are cited.
