Algebraic [formula omitted]-theory of operator rings

Abstract

We produce “small” Bott rings of operators on an infinite dimensional separable complex Hilbert space. We also establish comparison results for negative algebraic and topological K-groups of Banach algebras. In our arguments we utilize two concepts that we introduce: of an algebra graded by a semilattice, and of a “secant extension” of algebras.
