Abstract

In this research, the effects of several parameters such as reaction time, current density, pH, H2O2/Fe2+ molar ratio, and volume fraction of H2O2 to alcoholic wastewater (ml/l) on the electro-Fenton process were investigated. For this purpose, iron nanoparticles were deposited on graphite electrodes. Efficiency of electrochemical oxidation process was tested by Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) determination. The optimum COD removal (66.15%) was obtained at pH of 2.84, reaction time of 69.29min, current density of 51.54mA, H2O2/Fe2+ molar ratio of 3.7 and volume fraction of H2O2 to alcoholic wastewater of 1.62ml/l. It was concluded that the electro-Fenton process with graphite electrodes coated by iron nanoparticles was more efficient than the electro-Fenton with iron electrodes.
