Abstract
Old age is a factor in the onset of degenerative brain diseases among which dementia, associated with severe cognitive impairment. The study analyzes the literature data, accumulated over the years, concerning the impact of moderate alcohol consumption on cognitive processes in the elderly. Recent reports reveal that light-to-moderate consumption of alcohol does not reduce the risk of cognitive decline in old age. Moderate alcohol consumption does not improve cognitive function and is associated with lower cognitive performance in a dose-dependent manner.
