Abstract

In summary, this meta-analysis by Grindal et al. (12) further establishes alcohol as an important risk factor for the failure of AF ablation. Counselling on alcohol as a modifiable AF risk factor should be certainly incorporated in every pre-ablation consultation with AF patients considered for AF ablation. Nevertheless, we need to recognize, that "breaking common habits" is difficult for our patients, and complete alcohol abstinence is likely impossible as a long-term goal. Future designs of risk factor modification programs need to incorporate promotion of a healthy lifestyle with low or no alcohol consumption around AF ablation without negatively impacting life-quality of our patients.
