Abstract

The objective of this work is to contributed to the knowledge of the taxonomy of Mexican rudists, through the description of seven species of radiolitid rudists. A well-preserved fossil fauna permits detailed descriptions that may help toward reaching a better understanding of incomplete and ill-preserved material from other places. The specimens studied come from “El Madroño”, located in the extreme northeastern section of the state of Queretaro, in east-central Mexico. The middle to upper Albian deposit pertains to the reefal Taninul facies of the El Abra Formation. The described species are rudist bivalves of the Radiolitidae family. From the seven species, three are already known: Eoradiolites davidsoni (Hill), Radiolites abraensis Coogan and Radiolites costata Scott. Four new species are proposed: Radiolites unisulcus, Radiolites scotti, Radiolites canistra and Radiolites maldonadoi.
