Abstract

The HIV epidemic seems to be under control in Africa thanks to an extended antiretroviral therapy programme and a combination HIV of strategies. This progress towards controlling the epidemic can be seen in the reduction of HIV incidence cases1,2 and an increasing number of countries that are close to achieve the UNAIDS 90-90-90 target.3 In this optimistic context, however, the control of non-HIV sexually transmitted infections (STIs; including chlamydia, gonorrhoea, syphilis, trichomoniasis, and herpes simplex virus 2 [HSV-2]) seems to be a weakness.
