Abstract

• Al 0.25 CoCrFeNiSi 0.6 high entropy alloy (HEA) with improved wear resistance is developed. • The formation of Cr 3 Si simultaneously improves hardness and wear resistance. • A wear-resistant Al 0.25 CoCrFeNiSi 0.6 HEA is introduced. The microstructure, phase composition, microhardness, and wear resistance of Al 0.25 CoCrFeNiSi 0.6 high entropy alloy (HEA) are studied. The alloy consists of fcc + bcc solid solution phases with precipitated needle-shape Cr 3 Si intermetallics. The high microhardness 710 ± 25 HV 0.3 of the studied HEA can be correlated with the formation of Cr 3 Si. The alloy also displayed a high degree of wear resistance with wear rate of (3.1 ± 0.5) × 10 −5 (mm 3 ∙N −1 ∙m −1 ).
