Al and Si K absorption edges of Al 2SiO 5 polymorphs using the new YB 66 soft X-ray monochromator

Abstract

Using a YB 66 monochromator, X-ray absorption spectra of the Al K and Si K absorption edges of the three Al 2SiO 5 polymorphs, sillimanite, andalusite and kyanite, were recorded. For the Al K edges different XANES features could be correlated with the symmetry and the AlO coordination. At the Si K edge all polymorphs show the same white line and only the sillimanite with its special AlOSi arrangement shows a further feature at higher energies.
