Abstract

Al K beta soft X-ray emission spectra (p states of the valence band to 1s) have been analysed for several Al100-xMnx alloys of different structural arrangements and compositions and compared with pure Al. Differences are observed according to the structural state of the sample; the states near the Fermi level appear to be long-range order-dependent while those at EF+6.5 eV are sensitive to a shorter-range order. A partial p DOS at EF is related to both the Mn concentration and the structural state; this is in line with resistivity measurements on similar alloys.
