Abstract

Aim: neutrophil/lymphocyte (N/R) ratio and mean platelet volume (MPV) values in patients with acute and chronic subdural hemorrhage. Material and methods: A total of 114 patients underwent surgery due to acute and chronic subdural hemorrhage, and patients admitted to the hospital for routine visit between 01.01.2009 and 31.12.2012 at Mustafa Kemal University Research Hospital were investigated retrospectively. The patients divided in to 3 groups. These groups were group K (control group, n=37), group ASD (acute subdural hemorrhage, n=30) and group KDS (chronic subdural hemorrhage =37). Groups were compared to each other in terms of neutrophil, lymphocyte, N/L ratio and MPV values. Results: Neutrophil values were found as follows ; Group K 3.76 (range 1.77-8.09)×103/µL, Group ASD 13.10 (range 2.15-32.90)×103/µL and Group KSD 5.27 (range 0.90-13.30)×103/µL. There was a significant difference in neutrophil values between groups K, ASD and KSD (p values; Group KASD=0.0001, Group K-KSD=0.0001, Group ASDKSD=0.0001). N/L ratio values were found as follows; Group K 2 (range 0.80-3.77), Group ASD 6.24 (range 0.31-49.25) and Group KSD 2.79 (range 0.16-23.33). There was a significant difference in N/L ratio values between groups K, ASD and KSD (p values; Group K-ASD=0.0001, Group K-KSD=0.0001, Group ASD-KSD=0.040). There were no statistically significant differences in MPV and lymphocyte count values between groups (p ˃ 0.05). Conclusion:The highest N/L ratio was found in ASD group. However, N/L ratio in KSD was higher than control group and MPV values were similar in all 3 groups. Key neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio, mean platelet volume, anesthesia
