Abstract

Objective: Appendectomy is the most common urgent surgical procedure but a diagnosis of acute appendicitis still remains challenging. In this retrospective study, we aimed to evaluate the value of the complete blood count CBC test parameters in acute appendicitis.Materials and methods: Data of 131 patients who underwent appendectomy between January 2016 – December 2016 were collected retrospectively. Demographic features, CBC parameters and final histopathological results of the patients were recorded. The patients were divided into two groups according to the final pathological results Group 1: Acute appendicitis group, Group 2: Normal appendices group and were compared in terms of WBC white blood cell , platelet count, hemoglobin level, RDW red cell distribution width , MPV mean platelet volume and NLR neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio values.Results: 13 of 131 patients had normal appendices.
