Abstract

From 1990 to 1998, German Federal Planning Law was challenged by the political changes in Eastern Europe and German reunification. Within this context, special arrangements had to be established, some of which have now become permanent features of federal planning law. In addition, a federal natural conservation act has been issued and the National Environmental Policy Act has been harmonized with EU law. Currently, legal regulation of building activities in open land, location of radio masts, and reform of the federal zoning ordinance are under discussion. Future tasks will include development policy, urban social policy, urban redevelopment policy, and appropriate legal planning instruments for urban redevelopment.
