Abstract
The article discusses the optional elements of gravestone inscriptions in the Orthodox cemeteries in the eastern part of Lubelszczyzna region. The analysis of positively valued aspects of the earthly life of the person – to whom the inscriptions are devoted – was conducted (e.g. occupation, education, position, social status, scientific degree(s), professional involvement, citizenship, character qualities, etc.). These elements constitute a kind of funerary characteristics of the deceased person, they are also a reflection of the social vision of the proper and decent life.
