Abstract

Airports Council International (ACI) is a global, non-profit membership association, which describes itself as voice of the world's airports. Membership of ACI is open to the owners or operators, other than airlines, of one or more civil airports with commercial air services. The five principal organs of the ACI are the General Assembly, the World Governing Board, the Executive Committee, the Standing Committees and the Secretariat. ACI's supreme authority is the General Assembly. ACI plays a central role in ensuring the smooth functioning of the global civil aviation industry. As one of the three 'pillars' of international civil aviation alongside International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) and International Air Transport Association (IATA), ACI contributes to transnational economic governance by facilitating global trade in goods and the movement of people. ACI member airports handle 96 percent of all passenger traffic worldwide.
