Abstract

A hay dryer with capacity for 84 soft-centre bales was tested to determine airflow patterns. Capping bales was critical for improving airflow distribution as shown by mapping of isobars. Moisture removal rates have been measured as high as 295 kg (650 lbs) per hour. The variation in quantity of airflow, and hence moisture removal from bale to bale should be minimized by proper sizing of laterals.
