Abstract

This paper discusses the measurement data on tropospheric ozone concentrations obtained during the aircraft Arctic mission conducted in spring 1994 within the framework of the joint German-Russian research project ‘Arctic Haze’. Aircraft measurements of tropospheric ozone over the Arctic during April 1994 are presented. These data suggest a systematic destruction of boundary layer ozone over an expanse of the Arctic during the observational period. The data support current models of ozone destruction involving bromide and iodide reactions.
