Abstract

A description will be given of a software package for the design and analysis of aircraft control systems. The package offers the possibility of modelling, optimization and evaluation of controllers for deterministic or stochastic, time-continuous or discrete-time systems. According to the phases of the design process, the software package is divided into the following four sections: 1. calculation of a steady-state flight condition and specification of the linearized equations of motion; 2. compilation of subsystems to obtain the total system model; 3. application of linear system theory to computation of observer and controller gains; 4. computation and evaluation of the responses of the controlled aircraft. Response evaluations may be extended using a nonlinear flight simulation program, which may include either simulation of a digital control system or simulation of the human pilot controlling the aircraft with the aid of a so-called flight-director system.
