Abstract

In July 1983 an outbreak of acute asthma during a thunderstorm in Birmingham was reported.10 The authors suggested that sudden weather changes were the cause of the epidemic, but when the storm reached Derby, 60 Km. away, we observed a very high spore count which correlated closely with the remarkable numbers of asthma admissions the previous evening, as shown in Fig. l.KeywordsCalcium SulphateSpore CountSpore TrapCoal Fire Power StationAirborne Fungal SporeThese keywords were added by machine and not by the authors. This process is experimental and the keywords may be updated as the learning algorithm improves.
