Abstract

Pump characteristics of a twin-screw pump, which is positive displacement type, were investigated experimentally in water single-phase and air-water two-phase flow conditions. It is demonstrated that this type pump is able to operate even at high inlet void fraction of air in mixture more than 80 percents. In order to predict pumping flow rates under the various conditions of pressure differences between the inlet and outlet sections of twin-screw rotors, a simple model of gap flows between the rotor and the casing is proposed with an empirical relationship. The model is examined and discussed from the results of pressure measurements on casing wall and flow visualizations of air behaviors in rotors
