Abstract

Air Zimbabwe demonstrates the financial and operational problems typical of a small state-owned African airline. Airline deregulation has increased the competition on routes between Zimbabwe and Europe and liberalisation policies within Zimbabwe have enabled other airlines to compete for domestic and regional traffic. A fundamental review of government policy on Air Zimbabwe’s management is essential if the airline is to survive within the framework of southern African air transport services.
