Abstract

ABSTRACT MINIMUM air velocities and air-to-cotton ratios that that would convey seed cotton through gin dryers at the range of moisture levels at which cotton is received at cotton gins were ascertained. Test results indicated that normal flow of relatively dry cotton may be readily main-tained at air velocities lower than those required for damper cotton. Power requirements and fuel use may be lowered by reducing the rate of airflow when dry cotton is being processed. Guidelines are presented for gin dryer design, particularly for gins that handle more than 12 bale/h.
