Abstract
Should there be legislative control of chemical air contaminants in the office environment that imposes lower concentration limits for offices than for industry? As the two affected populations are essentially similar, it is conclud ed that there is no justification for legislatively binding different limits which are health based. There is a case for the control of chemical air contaminants in offices which is based on economic (mainly productivity) grounds at a lower level than the health-based ones, but this should be by improved guidance being available rather than by legislation.
