Abstract
Liquefaction is mostly seen in saturated granular cohesionless soils when subjected to static and dynamic loading. Mainly in the constructed facilities, liquefaction on its way brings huge destruction. This study investigates the effectiveness of air injection method against liquefaction of saturated granular soil by cyclic triaxial apparatus. Strain controlled cyclic triaxial tests were performed on Indian standard sand considering strain amplitude, confining pressures and air injection pressures as variables. Dynamic properties of fully saturated and air injected samples were compared. Resistance of the samples towards liquefaction were also investigated. The behavior of air injected soil sample was also observed continuously for 30 days. It is observed that desaturation of soil through air injection method significantly improves the liquefaction resistance of the soil and air injected samples remained desaturated even after 30 days of air injection.
