Abstract

The following report on French secondary education is interesting not only for the timeliness of its criticisms and proposals, but also for its origin. As hinted in its introductory sentence, it resulted from a series of workshops held during a three-day conference at Amiens (near Paris) in March 1968. The conference was organized by the Association for the Expansion of Scientific Research, a group of scientists, educators, physicians, architects, and journalists who founded the association for the main purpose of promoting educational reforms and empirical research in education (which has been little developed in France).
