Abstract

Artificial intelligence in the realm of digital music platforms is changing the cultural ecosystem. Technological developments and music streaming platforms, aided by machine learning and algorithms, influence cultural trends, listener engagement, and music creation on a global scale. With references to Marshall McLuhan and his exponents, this article discusses the medium of music in past, current, and future contexts, and considers the impact of assigning AI as the cultural curator.
