Abstract

One of the conclusions reached by the participants of the Zmuda Memorial Conference on Geomagnetic Field Models, which was held in Colorado Springs, Colorado, in March 1975 (EOS, 56 (8), 536, 1975) was that the present international geomagnetic reference field (IGRF) is not totally adequate for many users. Furthermore, the user community appeared dissatisfied with the decisions on updating the model reached at the 1973 International Association of Geomagnetism and Aeronomy (IAGA) meeting in Kyoto, Japan.
