Abstract

In reviewing the agromedical approach to pesticide management, it is first necessary to define what we perceive as agromedicine. Agromedicine is the integrated interdis ciplinary application of the skills and knowledge of agriculture, applied chemistry and medicine to the production of an adequate and wholesome food supply for the welfare of man. When the technologies to achieve this end pose a threat to human health through misapplication, the alliance has equal applicability to these second ary health-related problems. Pesticide management is a good example of an area in which the agromedical approach affords the means of utilizing the safe and effective application of this technology. This paper reviews this aspect of agromedicine namely, agromedical approaches to pesticide management. But it is necessary to state the reasons wherein the alliance of agriculture and medicine is essential if we are to attain the overall goal of a bountiful and healthful food supply.
