Abstract
Abstract This paper provides a general overview of agrobiotechnology and biosafety development in Colombia. It outlines agrobiotechnology policies, priorities and development strategies in Colombia, as well as research capacities. A description of the evolution of biosafety regulations and legislation in force in the country is also included. As an important implementation part of the Cartagena PROTOCOL in Colombia, the GEF-WB Colombian Biosafety project 'Capacity Building for Implementation of the Cartagena PROTOCOL in Colombia' is briefly described.
